Social capital survey
In the spring of 2022, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen and The Social Development Plan in Tingbjerg and Utterslevhuse carried out a comprehensive study of the social capital of the local community. The purpose of the study was to give an insight into the residents' social life in the local community, including how the residents felt about it living in Tingbjerg, how they felt about each other, what social networks they were part of and how they used local community facilities, arenas and offers. This is important knowledge for elucidating the local community social challenges, needs and potentials. The results are therefore used to identify future areas of action in the social and health promotion work in Tingbjerg. Read the results here.
The survey was household-based, which means that all 2567 households in Tingbjerg were visited at the address by a data collector. Residents who opened the door were asked if they would like to answer a number of questions in a questionnaire in this very moment. The answer took place digitally on a tablet (iPad).
At households where the door was not opened, as well as residents who did not have the opportunity to answer the questionnaire immediately, were given a brochure (either through the letter slot or by hand) with a digital link to the questionnaire. The questionnaire was answered by a total of 449 residents, which corresponds to approx. 17% of all households in the local community or approx. 50% of all households where the door was opened.
The data collection was carried out by seven data collectors, all of whom were residents of Tingbjerg. The data collectors also participated in the preparation of the questionnaire and in the practical planning of the data collection.
The results of the survey are quite extensive and will soon be available in a report on this website under the tab Dissemination- Science.
In summary, the results show that a large proportion of the residents felt a high degree of belonging to and joy in living in Tingbjerg, although they rarely participated in social events with friends and acquaintances in the local community. A large part of the residents felt safe living in Tingbjerg, although they rarely used the local community associations, offers, arenas and facilities. The results indicate that Tingbjerg's residents are happy with their local community, but rarely use it for anything other than living in. This holds great potential for strengthening and intensifying housing social and health promotion initiatives. The survey will be repeated regularly at one or two year intervals to follow any changes in the social capital of the local community over time.
